“It started off as a dare…”
Years ago I was out celebrating with some friends. More specifically a group of guys I’ve known since grade school. We still try and gather every so often even as life takes us in different directions, and this gathering was to celebrate the upcoming wedding of the first of us to be married. I made a joke that my wedding gift would be a painting of the newly weds with only light intention to follow through. My remark was met with a chorus of affirmations, but also that it should be a fertility painting to bless the new couple. Now me being at the start of my illustration career I gave it a shot, but found I was unable to capture the couple’s personal resemblance. So I went back to figure drawing and working on my craft for a while longer until I could improve my skill enough.
Jump a few years later and I’m determined to follow through for the next wedding gift. Though instead of a well endowed nude couple holding fruits I thought it would be more fun/tasteful to capture them in a setting that’s more unique to their dynamic. And it was a bigger hit than I thought it would be.
